Roadmap

PyPilot answers from package metadata and local checks, with no AI service and no API keys. Ideas that keep that property are the easiest to accept.

Shipped in 1.3.0

Released on 2026-10-29 for the engine, the VS Code extension and pypilot-cli. Marked 1.3 across this site.

Engine (v1.3.0)

  • pypilot explain [package] [--json]: what blocks each Python, requires_python against wheels per platform.
  • --json on every command with a shared envelope, --markdown on doctor and check. Details
  • pixi: multi-environment doctor, pixi.lock staleness and platform-wheel checks, pixi_environment / --pixi-env, package_manager = "pixi", the "pixi can help here" advisory, migrate-to-pixi, migrate-conda --to pixi, install-pixi. Details
  • Editor settings over LSP (initializationOptions, workspace/didChangeConfiguration), and workspace-wide import diagnostics (diagnostics_scope = "workspace"). Details
  • --dry-run plans for setup, install, fix python, fix cuda and doctor --fix. Details
  • pypilot logs [--tail] (a local, redacted log), pypilot completions <shell>, pypilot version, update-data --check and the data-tables line in doctor. Details
  • A protocol reference for editor integrations, helper/src/lsp/PROTOCOL.md.
  • Fixes: an unreachable PyPI no longer shows "PyPI has no project named …" on every import; patch-level requires_python bounds (>=3.8.1) keep their minor; win32 wheels no longer count on 64-bit Windows; free-threaded-only wheels (cp314t) no longer count for the default build; manylinux and musllinux wheels are kept apart.
  • Releases with SHA256SUMS, a CycloneDX SBOM and build-provenance attestations; automatic pin-bump pull requests to the wrappers. Details

VS Code (1.3.0)

  • A pinned, SHA-256-verified engine, pypilot.engineUpdates and pypilot.helperPath. Details
  • Multi-root workspaces, pypilot.diagnosticsScope, the report panel with Copy as Markdown / Save as HTML, palette when clauses, a richer status bar tooltip.
  • pixi: pypilot.pixiEnvironment, Install pixi, Initialize pixi project, the walkthrough.
  • Proxy support for engine downloads, a nonce-only content security policy in the report panel, unit and end-to-end tests, bun audit and an SBOM per release.

pypilot-cli (1.3.0)

  • Platform wheels with the engine inside, SHA-256 verification of every download, PYPILOT_ENGINE_VERSION, PYPILOT_OFFLINE and proxy support. Details
  • RunResult with .json(), run(check=…), arun, locate_engine and typed errors. Details
  • pypilot --version reports the wrapper and the engine it found, and warns about version skew.
